December Devotional - One body, many parts still not working!!
1 December 2006
Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.
1 Cor 12:14
Well, I may not be able to scratch my back, drive a car or lift my left arm ahoy and shout Hallelujah – but at least I’ve still got my sense of humour! Having broken my elbow, my shoulder has now decided to glue itself to my left side and is frozen. How seasonal. So now I await the big thaw!
When your body is not functioning properly, you soon realise how much you need the other parts. Christmas is a time of drawing together as families – but it can be a tough time for many, as what appears to be one body (or happy family), may not work at all well together.
These past 3 months – though difficult for me, have been very special. I’ve been touched by the kindness of friends and neighbours as well as strangers. The good old National Health Service has been so caring too. I’ve really come to know the meaning of God providing for my needs and I have seen that happen in very unexpected and wonderful ways. Small things mean a lot when you suddenly become housebound. One friend from church faithfully gets my shopping each week and another helps me with typing. I had a homemade curry delivered to my door one lunchtime and last week some friends popped in with a chocolate biscuit crunch which had a wicked amount of chocolate on the top – yum!! Spending quality time with my family and all my gorgeous nephews and nieces has also been precious. My oldest niece aged 14 even stayed with me to look after me initially! In my normal busy schedule – I could have missed all these amazing glimpses of God’s love for me.
Prayer:
Lord, help me to see You in the ordinary and not to take everyday things for granted again; and keep me eternally thankful for all that I have.
