January Devotional - New Year Meditation

1 January 2008

‘ll be leading a New Year meditation soon at a local hotel where folk are trying out a ‘fresh expression’ of church. We’ll be reflecting on 2007 and looking forward with anticipation to 2008. The New Year is a great time to reflect on the past year and to thank God for the blessings in our lives, but it’s also a time to look forward, to pray in anticipation for all that will be.

You might like to begin by simply considering one thing to thank God for in 2007. Then, you might like to share the desire of your heart with God for 2008 – both for yourself, others and all humanity. The Bible tells us that you have not because you ask not, so it is important to pray in this way.

Here’s a prayer-poem from my book The Restful Heart which might also aid your reflection.

New Beginnings

New Year

New beginnings

new hope

fresh challenges

A chance to let go

- to leave behind

what was

and adventure

into what will be…
