May Devotional – How much more will He clothe you.

Scripture:
And don’t worry about what to wear? Take a tip from the lilies in the countryside…If God gives that sort of clothing even to the grass of the field…Isn’t he going to clothe you too…?
Matthew 6:28
Have you ever wrestled with a Scripture trying to work out what it really means? Well I was reflecting on the lilies of the field just before Easter and wondering….how God could clothe lilies as they’re already dressed! And I didn’t want to be dressed like a Lily anyway – flower-power isn’t my style!
Well when I was at Easter People God revealed its true meaning to me in a wonderful way. Easter People (a large Christian gathering for 5000 plus) was so oversubscribed this year that they asked me to stay on for the whole week and help head up an extra celebration service in the evening – and guess what, I’d only bought enough clothes for 3 days not 6. Even while I was preparing to go to Easter People, I’d been worrying about what clothes to wear too, as I was being filmed for a series of 3 TV programmes while there and so needed 3 different sets of clothes on top of gear to perform and lead workshops in etc. Well, I happened to mention to someone that I’d run out of tops one evening and the very next day a lady came up to me with a carrier bag of lovely T shirt tops she’d just bought for me. I was overwhelmed and didn’t know what to say. I was so moved by her kind gesture in taking the time and trouble to care for my practical needs and the generosity of God. Then all became clear – how much more will he clothe you… and He had – now I understood the meaning! God cares about the tiniest details of our lives. What an awesome God we serve.
Prayer:
Lord, thank you that your care about us so much that no detail of our lives is overlooked. Thank you for the extravagance of your love. Amen
